Plan Your Visit

It doesn't matter who you are, Bethlehem is a place for you—a place for you to experience God's love.

Gathering Times

Our congregation's mission is "In Jesus, Gather, Grow, and Go."  There's nothing more important to us than getting together around God's Word to grow closer to God and to each other, and to go out and share the love of Jesus with our friends and neighbors in Hortonville.

Directions

Bethlehem has two campuses. If you're joining us for worship, you'll want to go to our Grandview campus, just outside of Hortonville.

If you're looking for our office and educational facilities, you'll find them at our Pine St. campus in downtown Hortonville. Parking at our Pine St. campus is available on the street during school hours. To get in, look for the "Office" awning in our parking lot.

What to Expect

Visiting a new church can be intimidating! We'll try to make things as comfortable as possible. Here are some frequently asked questions:

  • What is Your Worship Like?

Worship at Bethlehem follows what's called a "liturgy." Basically, there's a pattern you'll see repeated in different forms each time you worship here. Here are some of the basic parts:

    • Confession of Sin: Faith in Christ starts with repentance, which means a) admitting we're sinners and b) trusting in Jesus for forgiveness. Repentance is not just the beginning, though, it's a daily need. This is what confessing our sin reminds us of.
    • Bible readings: Faith in Christ starts with the Gospel of Jesus. This is also how faith is fed and grows. On a typical Sunday, we hear Bible readings a) from the Old Testament, b) from the New Testamant "epistles" (or letters), and c) from the New Testament Gospels (records of Jesus' life, death, and resurrection).
    • Confession of Faith: After we hear God's Word, we typically recite a "confession of faith" like the Apostles' Creed. These are summaries of what God's Word teaches us to believe God does for us.
    • Communion: (See "How Does Communion Work?")
    • Offering: Offerings are one way we give to support the Gospel ministry we do at Bethlehem and across the country and the world through our synod.
    • Prayers: In the Bible, God speaks, and in prayer, we speak to God.
  • What Should I Wear?

You'll find arange of formal and informal attire at worship. Some people will be wearing shirts and ties or dresses, some will have t-shirts on and shorts or jeans.

It's the attitude that counts more than the outfit. We come to worship recognizing that God is God and we are not. Whatever we look like on the outside, we are sinners in need of the forgiveness and holiness God offers us in Jesus.

  • Will My Kids Be Too Noisy?

We love the sound of kids in worship! Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me..." (Matthew 19:14), and so do we. You'll find that you if you have little kids, you won't be alone.

If you need it, there's a nursery in the back of the worship area with a glider, bathroom, changing table, diapers, etc.

  • How Does Communion Work?

Bethlehem celebrates communion on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of every month. It can be confusing if you're visiting for the first time. Click the button below for an infographic that explains how communion at Bethlehem works.

  • Will People Notice I'm a Visitor?

We're going to try our best to welcome you without embarrassing you. Our pastors will be there to greet you at the front doors and if they notice you're new, they'll introduce themselves.

Our greeters and ushers will make sure you have what you need. If it's your first time, make sure to let them know and they'll get you a welcome bag on your way out.

Joining Bethlehem

Membership at Bethlehem means joining our mission. We want all our members to know and buy into that mission. New members are asked to take our Bible Basics course to familiarize themselves with our mission and beliefs.

Courses typically start in September, January, and June, but we're flexible. Let us know if you're interested!

For those with children 8th grade or younger, membership works a little differently for them. We encourage you to enroll your children in Sunday school. We also offer Confirmation class for 7th-8th graders on Wednesday nights during the school year.
